Cincinnati Mayor Honors Construction Pathway Director

Mayor Mark Mallory and Janice Urbanik,
honored as a "SuperConnector"  Feb. 11 for her work
coordinating grant applications as Construction Pathway Director
for the Greater Cincinnati Workforce Network.

Cincinnati, Ohio Mayor Mark Mallory and Hamilton County Commissioner David Pepper did the honors Feb. 11 at the Southwest Ohio Region Workforce Investment Board's (SWORWIB) Annual Meeting, handing out SuperAwards that honored 20 individuals, three companies, and six organizations for their leadership in the workforce system.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services has awarded a $998,976 stimulus grant, the largest Constructing Futures Grant award in the state, to the Greater Cincinnati Regional Construction Trades Partnership, which will provide Pre-Apprenticeship training to low-income, unemployed residents of Southwestern Ohio, especially those who have historically been underrepresented within the construction industry.

The broad-based partnership is led by the Laborer's Local 265 JATC, Easter Seals Work Resource Center, and Allied Construction Industries.  Training partners also include the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, Butler Tech, Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Agency, Cincinnati Labor Agency for Social Services, and Straight 2 The Heart.  Each will provide occupational training in various construction pathways ranging from skilled labor to deconstruction and project administrator training, along will supportive services and career counseling.  Additional classes will be offered to the participants in sustainable green construction so they will be able to seek employment in the growing green economy.

This collaborative effort was formed through the efforts of Janice Urbanik, the Workforce Network's Director of Construction Career Pathways.

G*STARS is the common data collection system, used by the training partners, to collect data for measuring outcomes and performance metrics.  The data will be aggregated as part of the Southwest Ohio Regional Initiative, a comprehensive Region-wide project for analyzing program outcomes and deliverables.
